CYFC u13’s 6-1 TTBS

This weeks game we returned back to a league fixture, against TTBS. We slipped up against them earlier in the season and today we wanted to get it right and continue are good run.
The Lads came flying out of the traps and had 3 chances in the first 5 minutes and TTBS were struggling to get out of their half. Town lads took the lead on the 6th minute, a nice ball over the top from Liam seen Kyle race onto it and cross it over to Cillian to open the scoring, 1 nil. The Lads doubled the lead when some neat footwork from Noah seen him get away from his marker and score a great goal, 2 nil. The Lads were firing all cylinders now and a third quickly followed when Kyle used his pace to burst away and make it 3.
We had a few more chances to extend our lead but it was TTBS who got the next goal when we failed to clear our lines. 3-1.
Not letting our heads drop we regrouped and scored are 4th straight away, Kyle getting his 2nd of the match.
Not finished just yet, Cameron made a nice run going past 2 defenders but just before he shot, was slide tackled but the ball fell kindly to Kyle to make it 5-1 at the break.
Second half was more evenly matched, TTBS were defending a lot better and their keeper was equal to everything we threw at him. Ten minutes to go and the ball fell to Zack just outside the box, he struck it well and the keeper got a hand to it but failed to keep it out, 6 – 1, another 3 points and up the road!
Some stand out performances today, wee Reece calm as always dealt with everything, Liam strong too playing some lovely balls over the top, wee Josh had a great game, Noah another strong performance, Zack solid in the middle of the pitch but man of the match was Kyle Kilgore, scored the winner last week too and 3 this week and an assist, smashing effort lad, well done.
The wee team is 106 days undefeated which is fantastic, so proud of them.
Next up is Dromore in the league, which should be another tight game.
Thanks to all the parents who came cheered us on, much appreciated.

CYFC U18’s 1-3 Maiden City

Last Friday evening Cookstown hosted Maiden City at Meadowbank in their 5th fixture in the Premier Section of the National League.
After a close encounter earlier in the season manager Nigel Donnelly was hoping for a positive home result.
McGurk nearly opened the scoring in the opening five minutes when a well struck effort sailed just over the bar. Both teams huffed and puffed with half chances with Edwards-Schweiso going close from a Cookstown corner. A foul in the City box on Talbot led to the opener with Talbot himself striking home on 25 minutes. Cookstown were on the front foot for the rest of the half with the injured Edwards-Schwieso making way for Mota. HT 1-0.
Cookstown’s early dominance in the first half came undone on 45 minutes when they conceded a poor penalty with the Maiden 17 slotting past Teixeira to make it 1-1. Ten minutes later all that good work in the first half was undone when a poor clearance was picked up 25 yards out and thundered home from the City number 7. As Cookstown pushed to try and level, City employed quick counterattacking tactics. Two missed opportunities to clear ended with their number 5 slotting home their third to seal the winner and all three points.
