Match Reports – 16/11/24

The u17s  continued were they left of last week after a comprehensive win against Portadown.

This time it was a strong physical Riverdale team but a great squad performance from the young Cookstown men seen them hit another 4 goals in consecutive weeks.

Cookstown started the game brilliantly forcing Riverdale on the back foot and opening the scoring with 5mins on the clock. A inch perfect cross into the box from Dionisio was met at the back post by Nani who finished calmly 1-0.

The 2nd came soon after ,this time a great run forward from Cassidy down the left and then composed himself to pick out the late run from Wilson and he finished well 2-0.

Cookstown were cruising at this point and then took their foot of the gas and credit to Riverdale they pushed hard to get a goal back forcing a few corners but our defensive unit of Mcmurdie,  Ferson an Russo supported by Jorge in goals were fantastic on the day . Half time 2-0 .

The boys knew that the next goal would almost certainly kill the game and the boys went out for the 2nd half with intent . Cookstown continued to keep the ball playing pocession football and playing through the lines was fantastic to watch at times , Cookstown did get the 3rd goal after a good run into the box from Donnelly which the Riverdale defense didn’t deal with and the ball broke to Talbot who made no mistake from 10 yards out 3-0.

Ferguson,  Trevonn , Price  and Mcgirr all came on  to freshen things up and replace tired legs and Cookstown continued to dominate and had time for 4th goal this time Mcgirr with a lovely drilled finish into the corner of the net after some good link up play from Trevon ,Talbot and Price.

Another good squad performance from the 17s sees them climb to 3rd in the table. 4 goals scored and a clean sheet against a very capable Riverdale team . Well done lads
