Match Reports – 13/04/24

This weekend seen the boys travel to Holm Park Armagh for the biggest game of the season so far, a semi final against an inform Markethill team. After the disappointment of getting knocked out of the league Cup last week the boys were keen to get back to winning ways. They wasted no time at all and when Jamie Loughran broke away up the right he hit what looked like a cross but dipped in to the top corner to fool the keeper, 1 nil Cookstown after just 5 minutes!

The boys were solid in midfield and defence and Markethill just couldn’t create any chances. Some great saves from the Markethill keeper kept the score at 1 nil in the first half.

Second half the boys had the wind behind them and wasted no time in doubling their lead, a ball smashed across the line by Jamie was met by Danny Kelly to make it 2 nil. The boys were cruising now and our defence was solid and the back 3 of Liam, Keegan and Reece were giving Markethill no chance in getting through!

Zack Nellins scored a nice goal to make it 3 nil and settle any nerves, and the game was surely done when he scored his 2nd of the day, a freekick from near the half way line which flew into the roof of the net. An absolute great performance by the team who dug deep and fought for each other.

Kev and I are so proud of everyone of them today, the whole team get man of the match today as it was too hard to pick just one, well done! We now face are old enemy St Marys in the final were its say to say there will be no love lost.
