20 Feb Match Reports – 17/02/24
CYFC u10’s 3 – 1 Glentoran
The under 10s traveled to Belfast on Friday night to play Glentoran in the south Belfast league.
The game got off to a fast start with both teams playing some nice football with Luke Fearon and Ryan Mc’Cullagh putting a lot of pressure on the Glentoran defence and Kyle Chamber’s and jack Kirkpatrick standing strong in defence not letting anything get past them the very entertaining first half finished 0-0.
The second half started and Cookstown took control of the game having a few chances to score but finally got their reward with a well taking free kick from Ruairi Kelly. Soon after the 2nd goal came with a smart finish from Luke. With Alfie mcguckin and Adam toal working hard in midfield and Jenson Bell and Ruairi doing some great tackles but Glentoran pulled 1 back with Harris Hill unlucky to keep it out. Cookstown didn’t stop and a good pass from Ruairi to set Jenson free and he played a brilliant ball to Ryan to blast home getting the goal he deserved for all the hard work he put in.
This was a brilliant result for this young team and every player played their part!

CYFC u14’s 8- 1 Lurgan Town
The Cookstown lads were looking to make it three wins in a row and ended up doing so, quite comfortably, up at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena. Took thirteen minutes before Timoney opened the scoring, Bell slipping him in for an easy finish. Four minutes later it was two nil as Martin and Conway linked up brilliantly on edge of the box with Martin driving ball into box for Conway to calmly despatch. Two minutes later and it was three nil, Martin again was the provider, as he slid Davidson in for his first of the day. Lurgan scored to make it 3-1 after a bit of hesitancy between goalkeeper and defence left their striker an easy tap in. Davidson got his second of the day after a sublime chipped through ball from Dobson, Davidson took it down with one touch then buried it past keeper with his second.
A raft of changes were made at half time but Cookstown’s dominance continued and they got their fifth goal three minutes in. De Sousa received the ball out wide and played in Rogers who outmuscled the Lurgan defender before cutting the ball back for Mc Gurk, who struck it first time, sweetly into the top corner. De Sousa then got himself on the scoresheet after Rogers squared to him on edge of the Lurgan box, he then cut inside and drove a fierce right footed strike into the bottom corner. Seventh goal came from a quick free kick by Martin, who spotted Rogers on shoulder of last defender and pinged a thirty yard through ball for him to calmly slot past Lurgan’s keeper. Rogers got his second and the Town’s eighth three minutes later, he was first to react after Lurgan’s keeper made a smart save and he tapped ball in uncontested from six yards out.
A really clinical performance from the lads today and plenty of great possession football played throughout.
