Mid Season Review – CYFC U18’s

Under the guidance of manager Nigel Donnelly and seasoned coaches Nigel Talbot and Andy Warwick, CYFC u18’s have made the massive step from the Mid-Ulster League at u17 to the NIBFA NL this season with wins over Hillsborough Boys, Ballymoney and Top of the Hill Celtic and five draws along the way. Currently after a draw in their final pre-Xmas fixture with Institute at the Brandywell Stadium the 2006’s sit 14th in the league 5 points outside the top ten.

The 2006’s only cup fixture to date was a home 3-1 defeat to Armagh City in the second round of the Harry Cavan Cup with captain and leading top goal scorer Peter McClean scoring on the night. The first fixture in 2024 will be in the NL league cup against Phoenix Athletic in January. This fixture ended in a 2-2 draw a few weeks ago and will be a test for both teams.

A split in the league sometime in January will happen with CYFC probably restarting the second half of the season in Section B. The management team will be hoping to kick on and progress in both the league and league cup, with the vision and aim of developing as many of this group of players into Senior footballers for next season.
