27 Nov Match Reports – 25/11/23
CYFC u10’s 6 – 1 Carniny Youth
On a cold night in Belfast Cookstown played Carniny Youth in their next league match. The boys took a while to warm up but once they did they were in unstoppable form. A lovely corner floated in by ryan was met by Jack Kirkpatrick for his 1st league goal, a superb solo goal by Ruari Kelly soon followed as did 2 more from Ryan MC Cullagh & Adam Toal.
The second half Carniny hit 1 back straight from the whistle, Carniny continue to push forward but Zach Johnson & the once again versatile Kyle Chambers were having none of it with Some excellent defending. Some superb kicking from our goalkeeper Harris Hill set Luke Fearon up for a well taken goal and Ryan add a 6th with a firmly hit shot to send us up the road with another 3 points.

CYFC u14’s MUYL 2 – 2 Riverdale
The Boys have finally been given a true “home” game @ MUSA this week and it was a nice morning for it too.
This has been an up and down season with results for the Cookstown boys so far and with it being the featured game this week the U14s wanted to give a good impression of themselves and to be fair the boys were up for this game from the start. Usually, the boys would be slow of the mark, but this morning the lads were 1 up after 10 mins. From a corner there was a bit of panic in the Riverdale defence and the clearance was made BUT Hayden Martin was alert to the ball and slammed into the net from the edge of the area. Unfortunately, this didn’t last too long (About 1 Min) as Riverdale themselves got a corner straight from the kick off and scored 1-1.
Both teams were playing some good football, but our boys were controlling the game more with Lewis York and Matty Compton being strong and composed at the back, Aodhan Loughran and Luke Compton passing out from the back. Caleb Burton and Caleb Bell breaking the ball up when Riverdale were attacking with some nice robust challenges from Burton. Shea Conway, Hayden Martin, Aaron Taylor and Tyler Rodgers Up front not giving the Riverdale players anytime on the ball. CYFC were attacking with purpose and this brought about Hayden Martins 2nd goal. From another good midfield challenge in the 22nd minute the ball went out to Aaron Tayor who with some silky footwork down the left, crossed perfectly for Hayden to slot in his 2nd of the day. After this the game just went end to end and Ruari O’Hagan had to deny a Riverdale attack with his feet and then a great save from a 1 v 1 with the Riverdale number 9 keeping the CYFC boys in front at the break.
After the break it was just the same end to end chances. The subs came on were Oran Timoney for Shea Conway, Conall Hampsey for Aaron Taylor, Brooklyn Dobson for Caleb Bell and Jonah Davidson for Hayden Martin and finally Andrew Keane for Aidan Loughran. This didn’t change the pattern of the game with the Cookstown boys playing decent football and Riverdale were still very dangerous from the counter attacking football. Conall Hampsey with some great work and crosses down the left, Brooklyn putting some nice tackles and again breaking up play. Oran, Tyler and Jonah testing the keeper who was up to the task. With about 5 mis to go Riverdale’s counter attacking paid off and they were quick of the mark down their right side, turned inside and a good finish by the winger. Game ended 2-2 and it was a fair result to an entertaining game but the Cookstown boys will be slightly disappointed they couldn’t hold on for the win.
Some very good displays today from the lads especially by Lewis York, Matty Compton, Caleb Burton and Aaron Taylor but with his 2-goal brace it had to be Hayden Martin as this weeks MOM.
