CYFC u15’s 3-0  Maiden City

Last Saturday morning the 2008’s made the long trip to the Vale Centre in Greysteel to face second placed Maiden City in their third away fixture on the bounce in the National League.

In very mild conditions for November the young Whites got off to a flyer when Eoin Long thundered home a header from 12 yards after a fantastic corner from Jake Donnelly on 12 minutes. Cookstown doubled their lead 5 minutes later after a wonderful passing sequence between Isaac Kelso, Jake Donnelly and James and Brendan Mulgrew in the final third. Winger Mulgrew finished the brilliant move with the goal of the game with a sublime curling finish past the City keeper.

Defender Joshua Burton then thundered a pinpoint left footed shot into the top corner of the City net from another corner in his first ever NL goal with 10 minutes left in the half. Brendan Mulgrew could have made it four just before the break with the Maiden keeper pulling off a fine save.

Maiden City changed formation to a 3-4-3 to try and get back into the game and started to dictate possession and chances as Cookstown initially struggled to adapt. Keeper Benjamin Patterson pulled off a superb double save while captain Harry McKenzie was forced into a last ditch goal line clearance on 12 minutes. Jamie Ferson replaced Jack Price and Aidan Mcelhatton came on for Cillian McCrory on the right.

Cookstown worked really hard in and out of possession with Brendan Mulgrew and Caleb Talbot thwarted by the Maiden keeper in the last ten minutes of the game with Aidan McElhatton going close with a shot from range. The young Sizzlers saw the game out with their first clean sheet of the season in the league and second win on the bounce after the dramatic win over Larne.

A fantastic TEAM performance backed up by great passing moments, ruthless finishing and sheer work rate and determination to win.
