CYFC u12s Defeated By Tri-Star

CYFC U12’s faced Tri-star in NL KO cup. The cookstown lads started off the brightest stroking the ball around nicely with the defence seeing off any counter attacks. A good move down the cookstown left resulted in McGurk unleashing a thunder bolt that smashed off the crossbar with the keeper beaten. CYFC probed hard but the score remained level.

Tri-star came out a different side after the break but CYFC stood firm giving away very few chances. Just as the game looked to be heading to extra-time, Tri-star stole the winner as the left winger skipped inside off the CYFC right and curled an unstoppable stot into the top corner giving M.McElhatton no chance.

CYFC u14s 7-4 Larne (AET)

Last Saturday the 2008’s faced Larne Youth for the very first time in the NIBFA KO Cup in their first fixture of 2022.
After a few weeks off over Christmas to recharge the batteries the Blues started brightly against the Co Antrim side with Mulgrew and McCrory going close for the homesters.

But against the run of play Larne raced into a two goal lead with two ruthless finishes inside the Cookstown box on 20 and 25 minutes. Kelso then tested the Larne keeper a minutes later before a sublime through ball from McCrory found striker Kelso who powered home from 12 yards.

Poor defending led to Larne hitting a third before Kelso doubled his tally from a Donnelly corner just before halftime. McElhatton forced a save three minutes into the second half before blazing a great chance over the bar a minute later from 15 yards. A great run and a shot just wide from Lennox was followed up by Cookstown’s deserved equaliser at the back post from Mulgrew on the hour mark.

A quick free from Donnelly found Lennox who delivered a pin point cross for Long to bury first time into the bottom corner of the Larne net to make it 4-3. To their credit Larne never gave up and were awarded a penalty right at the death which secured the equaliser and forced the game into extra time. Captain McKenzie then shot over the bar from the edge before a quick fire double from MOM Kelso and a late penalty from McCrory secured a dramatic win in a pulsating game from two attacking teams.
