Cookstown Youth 3 – 1 St. Mary’s Portadown , 13/11/2021

Cookstown started brightly but were undone by an early goal due to a dubious penalty decision (0-1) but Cookstown never let their heads drop. With the home side closing down St.Mary’s at every given opportunity, in search of an equaliser, the pressure began to tell and they were duly rewarded. A long kick out from goalkeeper for the day, Orann Timoney, was controlled beautifully by Martin, out wide on the left, he turned his player inside and out before finishing brilliantly to the keepers near post (1-1). Second half was much the same with Cookstown playing some good football at times, and they got their noses in front from a great strike by Hampsey, which found the top left hand corner of the St. Mary’s net.(2-1) There was a few nervy moments near the end but Cookstown sealed their victory when Hampsey swung a great cross in from right which was spilled by the goalkeeper and Compton was there bravely, to bundle the rebound home. (3-1)

CYFC 15s v Riverdale , 13/11/2021

Cookstown and Riverdale under 15 proved to be a close
game and eventually Riverdale gained the upper hand.
Cookstown started well and Jamie Colvin played several
smart passes down the left flank but the returning Karol
Wawrynkievicz and Lorcan McMurray narrowly failed to get
behind the last defender. At the opposite end keeper Nathan
Hughes leaped to his left to parry behind a goal bound effort.
James Brownlow got in a good position but took too long to
shot and just approaching half time Cookstown conceaded as
Riverdale crossed to the unmarked player at the back post
whose textbook header gave Nathan Hughes no chance.
Cookstown equalised as a corner from Karol Wawrynkievicz
was hammered in by the unmarked Lorcan McMurray.
Cookstown now got their passing game in action but all the
hard work to get back into the game was undone as they
conceaded twice in as many minutes. Both were similar goals
as they failed to head away a corner and then a free kick.
However the spirit remained high and the defence of Reuben
Grimes, Charlie McElkearney, Nathan Bloomer and Alex
Dallas didn’t give away any more easy opportunities. Finlay
Patterson, Thomas Greaves, Alex Clements all put in a good
shift to try and salvage something from the game and both
James Brownlow and Matthew Duffy were denied by
desperate last ditch defending. A great corner whipped in by
Eoghan McGurk flew across the six yard box with no takers
and summed up the difference in the two teams. The
Cookstown lads will need to step up on several aspects of

play as they will shortly begin their pursuit of a tough Premier
Section on November 27 th .
