Last Saturday the 2008’s good recent run came to an abrupt end at the McAree Stadium. Buoyed by some great recent results the Blues started on the front foot against their derby rivals. Good work from Mulgrew on the left and a fine run and pass from Beatty delivered the opener for Cookstown with a tap in at the back post from McElhatton after 5 minutes. Kelso then saw a drive well saved before Beatty tested the home keeper on 10 minutes as the young Sizzlers went for the jugular. Dungannon settled after the initial shock to deliver the equaliser on 22 minutes after good work down Cookstown’s right. Beatty had exploded into the box and went tumbling down under contact from a Dungannon defender. Mulgrew’s equaliser a few minutes later was then denied after being blown up for offside.
With Cookstown’s heads all over the place Dungannon hit a third. Just before halftime a Cookstown defender was shown red. Despite being down to 10 men the Blues showed fantastic character with MOM Beatty hitting a wonderful second after a powerful 30 yard run on 40 minutes. Two minutes later he was inches wide with another effort after another powerful run through the middle. Cookstown pushed hard to get back into the game but despite some heroic efforts by Patterson in goal and defenders Lennox, Ferson, Long and McKenzie Dungannon hit their fourth from the edge on 65 minutes. Another great run by Beatty was thwarted when the centre half pulled him back by the shirt as he beared down on the Yellow’s goal.Thoughts and prayers from the 2008’s and CYFC for Daniel and the Beatty family circle on the recent passing of his Granny.
