Cookstown Youth u12s 4 – 1 Valley Rangers

This was quite literally a game of two halves. Cookstown were one nil down within the first two minutes of the game, a misunderstanding in the defence left the Rangers forward with a neat but quite easy finish, this from their first attack. Remainder of the half saw the away team pressure Cookstown into countless errors and misplaced passes but luckily enough, no more goals were conceded and Cookstown went in at half time still only the one goal down.
A few choice words from the management during the interval and the introduction of debutant James Corrigan seemed to spark the lads into life! Orann Timoney grabbed the equaliser within a few minutes of the restart, a thunderous drive into the roof of the net! Minutes later the ball was in the back of the Rangers net once more, Martin laid ball off to Corrigan who produced a smart finish into bottom corner, leaving the  keeper no chance. The lads tails were up and they were snapping into every tackle, winning every breaking ball and forcing Valley Rangers into conceding possession. This pressure paid off when Timoney grabbed his second of the day after a sublime through ball from Davidson. This left him one on one with the keeper and he was never missing. Halligan had the ball in the net after neat build up play between Loughran and Conway, with the latter slipping Halligan in but he was adjudged to have been offside and the goal didn’t count. Corrigan grabbed his second and Cookstown’s fourth with ten minutes remaining. Halligan showed great bravery and skill to go at the Rangers defence and he rode two or three challenges before being upended, the ball fell nicely to Corrigan who made no mistake and rifled the ball into the bottom corner. Cookstown now face Maiden City in the last eight of the NIBFA Plate.

CYFC u14s 14-0 Ards Academy

On Saturday it was back to nibfa cup action for our u14s who welcomed Ards Academy in the 2nd rd on a cold morning at musa. The cyfc boys didn’t let the cold effect there performance as they started very quickly an put Ards on the back foot right from the first whistle. Cyfc got there reward on the 3rd min when Eoin Long was the first to react in the box to tap home from 3 yards out . Dan Beatty was next to score with a good finish giving the Ards keeper no chance. This was the tone for most of the half as Cookstown continued to play some good pocession football and the goals just kept coming in with Cillian Mccrory grabbing 2, Aidan Mcelhatton 3, Isaac Kelso 1 an Dan Beatty scoring again with probably the pick the goals with a delightful long range effort that found the top corner of the net.

Into the second half and with the game virtually settled as a contest, the boys were instructed by there coaches to simply go out an try to keep pocession of the ball for the first 10 mins of the 2nd half which they did very well , to be fair to the Ards lads they never gave up and kept working hard as a team to try and win the ball back ,  Cyfc went on to score a few more later in the half with some lovely goals from Jake Donnelly  1 , Dan Beatty 1 , Eoin Long 1 ,Bruce Lennox with a great solo goal and Harry Mckenzie stepping forward from defence to hit a long range effort that found the corner of the net , we must give the Ards boys enormous credit for never giving up, who kept going right to the end ,good luck for the rest of your season. For our u14s it’s into the last 16 of the NIBFA Cup with the draw later in the week , back to league action next week with a Derby game against local rivals Dungannon in the National league, good luck boys
