Goals Galore for CYFC U14s

CYFC 14 8 – 3 St.Marys

The U14’s travelled to play St Marys on Saturday. Cookstown started the better of the two teams and dominated possession throughout the opening ten minutes, although St Marys looked dangerous on the counter attack. St Marys took the lead via a penalty, but this did not affect the Cookstown side who levelled short afterwards with B. Tereso scoring with a left footed drive. Cookstown took the lead in the game with good midfield passing before the ball fell to M. Dallas in the box, who scored his first goal for the club. Cookstown’s midfield three of D. O’Neill, J. McElkennon and J. Donnelly continued to dominate and where able to press high up the pitch which allowed J. Donnelly to score the third. The back four of E. O’Neill, C. Robb, S. Connelly and P. Monaghan looked comfortable defending and when in possession which create numerous attacking chances. When the ball was played over the top E. Donnelly was quick of his line to sweep up any danger or make the save. A free kick was played in from the right hand side which was subsequently cleared from St Marys, as the ball fell to P. Monaghan he passed it out to left hand side in which B.Tereso delivered a first time cross for A. Traill to volley into the bottom corner, leaving the score 4-1 at half time.

As the second half started St Marys broke quickly and where awarded a second penalty in which they scored, however Cookstown scored quickly afterwards with B. Tereso getting his second of the game. A. Traill then got his second of the game showing quick feet and clinical finishing, before St Marys pulled a goal back. A. Levsins and D. Banas both came on for Cookstown and linked up well with the midfield creating more chances before A. Traill scored his third of the game. E O’Neill got forward from right back and had two chances but could not convert. St Marys where awarded their third penalty of the game following a handball in the box. Their centre forward stepped up to seal a hat trick of penalties. Cookstown scored the final goal of the game with A. Traill getting his fourth
