CYFC 11s TRAVEL TO THE GLASGOW RANGERS TRAINING GROUND

On Saturday 27 June 2015, Cookstown Youth Under 11’s travelled to Rangers FC academy called ‘Murraypark’, to play in an invitational tournament between Rangers FC, Ardoyne FC and Glentoran.
It was an early start as the boys gathered for the coach, to transport us to Glasgow, Scotland. Despite the early hour, the weather was bright and warm, which perfectly matched the boys attitude. The travelling party, that consisted of players, coaches, parents and supporters enjoyed a calm sailing and hearty breakfast.

With excitement growing Cookstown Youth arrived at Murraypark around lunchtime and it was difficult to hold the boys back from thrusting into action. Their time came soon enough though, and began by playing a competitive Rangers FC side. Rangers FC started off well but Cookstown Youth absorbed the early pressure, turning it around to their own pressure. This materialised with a fantastic goal giving them the lead. This brought on the expected onslaught from Rangers FC but Cookstown Youth stood firm with some resolute defending. Rangers FC only penetrated Cookstown Youths defensive with an unlucky deflection.

The second half saw Cookstown Youth improve as they entered into a see saw battle with their prestigious opponents. As the sun shone down on the beautifully manicured pitches, Cookstown displayed their hard working team ethic, taking the game to Rangers FC. This resulted in more goals, saves and ended in a well deserved draw for both teams.

The other games in the tournament saw Cookstown Youth continue with their fine performances, with great wins against the Belfast teams.

The game against Ardoyne FC highlighted their play, with the prefect team goal. The play started off with an interception from the goalkeeper who passed to the right back, who passed to the left back, who passed to the right midfielder and you’ve guessed it, who passed to the left midfielder. These passes were all one touch, switch passes, played at speed. The play continued through to the right hand side striker, who slotted it into the path of the left hand side striker, who passed it into the net. Again all one touch. Even the opposing coaches had to applaud the move.

Well done to all of the Cookstown Youth players who attended this fantastic opportunity including –
Purvis, Murphy, Whitten, Jeffers, Ruddell, Graham, Young, Larmour, McCann, Ferguson, Armstrong, McAdoo, Leek, J Devlin, Farley, Donaghy, Anderson, Forbes, O’Donnell, Monaghan, Se O’Hare, Sh O’Hare and Donnelly.

Thanks also to all the parents, coaches and supporters who travelled with us, to make it such memorable day.
