U12 Colts Win Close Encounter

U12 Colts Win Close Encounter

U12 Colts 1 – 0 Loughgall

Cookstown played their first home game of the season against Loughgall on Saturday and were looking to bounce back after being beaten by Armagh the week before.

Loughgall started the game the better of the two sides and Cookstown struggled to get out of their half for the opening ten minutes. Despite the pressure, the back line of Sean Devlin, Scott Gillis and Canice Cullen held firm and were able to keep Loughgall out. As the first half continued Cookstown began to settle and grow into the game with the midfield pairing of Ryan Huey and Shayne Ferrity moving the ball well. Cookstown looked dangerous on the attack with Jamie Barry and Ciaran Devlin working hard to try and link up with Jude Murphy up front. Cookstown continued to put pressure on Loughgall and had several half chances but failed to really test the Loughgall goalkeeper. Just before the half Cookstown lost their concentration and were lucky that Loughgall did not take advantage of a short corner.

Cookstown started the second half well again and soon into the half several substitutions were made. Shortly after Shayne Ferrity opened the scoring with a super strike that flew into the top corner leaving the goalkeeper no chance. Cookstown then came under pressure again as Loughgall pressed for the equaliser but they were unable to get down the right hand side with Dylan Hamilton making some important interceptions and Matty McDaid working very hard to defend the lead. Shaun Og Shiels was also working hard in midfield and made some very good challenges in midfield while PJ Cassidy and Jake Ballantine were dangerous on the counter attack with some good passing between the pair. Loughgall pushed forward again in the last five minutes and were creating chances but some super challenges from Scott Gillis prevented the equaliser. Ethan Gordon in the Cookstown goal also made three or four fantastic saves at the end to secure his team a super win.
