Great Performance From The U17s

CYFC u17s 6 Armagh City Youth 2
Last Saturday the newly formed combo of 2002 and 2001 players secured their first win in dramatic fashion in the Mid-Ulster Youth League at under 17s. Despite opening defeats to Dungannon and Tandragee the coaching staff of Warwick, Leek, Quinn and Scott believed, given time, this squad of players was talented enough to respond to the demands of this league despite half the squad playing a year up. As in the previous games, mixing two squads together has initially proved difficult with confusion and a lost ball in midfield ending up in the back of the Cookstown net on 10 mins. Captain¬† Donaghy evened the scoreline on 21 minutes powering past two defenders to drive low past the Armagh keeper. A great free from Murphy was met by Donaghy who powered his header high into the Amagh net on 29 minutes. Murphy then dribbled past two defenders to drive home Cookstown’s third at halftime. Into the second half the Armagh keeper pulled off two cracking saves to deny Moura and Patterson from twenty yards out before Cookstown conceded a penalty. Gault initially made a fantastic save but the Armagh striker drove home with his second attempt. Glendinning, Monaghan, O’Neill and McGonigle all entered the fray before Donaghy hit a quick fire double to take his tally to four. Mallon then latched on to a great Donaghy through ball to make it six goals to the good and a superb overall team performance with every player playing their part in the first win of the season.
