CYFC u10s Defeated Bandbridge Rangers

The u10s travelled to Craigavon 3g pitches to take on Banbridge Rangers in their 3rd league game of the season, With players missing due to other sports the Coaches were concerned that the young team may suffer but this concern was quickly eradicated with the start these young lads had, quickly settling into their familiar passing game with Gabrysiak having his shot sail narrowly wide of the post. Banbridge were a strong side & had an attack of their own which produced a wonder save from keeper Wilkinson in the CYFC goals. Wilkinson was on fire in the CYFC goals & continued to keep Banbridge at bay with the help of his defence of Donnelly, Smyth & Mcmullan. Ortzel in CYFC’S midfield was playing a holding roll & he Provided the cover to allow an attacking four of Campbell, Gabrysiak, Moore & Levsins to push for the opener which came when a super passing move between Moore & Campbell saw Gabrysiak beat a defender and neatly slot the ball into the back of the net. CYFC now had their confidence back & continued to stop the Banbridge attacks & hit them with speed & precision with Moore & Levsins going closest to increasing the score. Levsins then had a well struck free kick rebound off the bar to fall nicely into Campbell’s feet & he made sure blasting the ball over the line from close range. Again CYFC continued to dominate & a poorly cleared ball by the Banbridge keeper was taken down by Campbell & he fired a rocket from distance past the diving Banbridge keeper. The 2nd half saw CYFC soak Banbridge attacks, with Moore & Levsins pace on either wing causing all sorts of problems for the Banbridge midfield & defence. Smyth on his debut was having a superb game and worked well with Mcmullan & Donnelly at the back. Then after a series of pinball in the CYFC area the Banbridge striker was fouled & a penalty was awarded against the young sizzlers. Not wanting to give up his clean sheet, Wilkinson stood firm & made a superb save from the spot kick. CYFC continued to play their passing game & again a move starting with Wilkinson playing it out from the back, saw every player having a touch of the ball ended with the resulting shot from Gabrysiak being well saved by the Banbridge keeper. A superb display from all the lads in this game with a special mention for both Smyth & Wilkinson.

MOM : Zak Wilkinson

CYFC u11s Defeated Craigavon

Cookstown youth had a early start on sat morning at Drumgor rd Craigavon but they didnt show any signs of tiredness on the pitch. Both teams started quite bright an cookstown were put under some pressure but gradually they started to take control of the game. On the 10 min Jake Donnelly done well down the left and put a great ball into the box an Caleb Talbot was there to calmly slot the ball past the advancing keeper to make it 1-0. Soon it was two when Talbot won a free kick 18 yards out and Jake Donnelly stepped up an curled the ball around the wall an into the corner of the net. The cookstown lads continued to dominate an once again Jake Donnelly made it 3 with a great free kick from 25 yards out again giving the keeper no chance an leave the score 3-0 at half time.
The second half started again with cyfc on the front foot with Jack price going close after good work from Harry Mckenzie in midfield. Jack Patterson made it four with a great strike 25 yards out that the keeper couldnt keep out .Cyfc then let Craigavon back into the game conceeding two goals in quick sucession after some poor defending. This seemed to wake the cookstown boys up and they really started to play good football .Jay Wilson fired in a quick double to make it six and Isaac Kelso grabbed his goal after some determined play. With the game over as a contest Jake Donnelly completed his hatrick for the day to leave the final score Cyfc 8-2 Craigavon. What a great start to the season for these lads winning 3 from 3 an scoring 30 goals and only conceeding 2 in the process. Lets keep this going lads Well done!

Cookstown Youth U14s 6 Rosario 1

The U14s went into this game on the back of two disappointing results so far in the National league B, leaving them with 0 points this season.

One of the teams that the U14s had been beaten by the previous weeks had just lost to Rosario 4……0, so the visitors were coming to MUSA expecting to claim the points.

The lads put together a great weeks training and tried to devise a game plan to stop the rot of goals that they were conceding and at the same time give them more attacking options.

From the first whistle the boys showed their intent, closing down the opponents and not giving them any time or space to settle. This hard work from the midfield 5 of J.Shepard, A.Donnelly, B.McADoo, K.Taylor and J.Young gave the boys the confidence they needed to push forward in the match.

Great work ethic and good football created a number of chances early on in the game with McAdoo coming close on a few occasions.

After missing a few chances Cookstown broke again closing down the visitors defence, winning the ball and Taylor finished well to put the home side 1…0 up.

Cookstown didn’t rest and good work from E.Johnstone led to Taylor finishing again from close range.

More pressure from the home team resulted in the visitors giving away a free kick on the edge of their box. Captain McAdoo stepped up and drilled the ball into the bottom corner, making it 3…0 at HT.

The second half started with the visitors on the front foot but the Cookstown defence of E.McCracken, K.Lamont, E.Cowden, K.Levsins and K.Hampsey was keeping them at bay and allowed the rest of the boys to come back into the game.

Cookstown got back on top and began pressing the visitors again.

Good work from Shepard down the left winning the ball in the opponents penalty area and squaring to Johnstone who calmly slotted the ball home.

The visitors then capitalised on a brief bit of sloppiness from the boys and pulled a goal back but Cookstown didn’t allow this to break their momentum.

Further pressure created more chances and from a well worked short corner, Young found space to unleash a great curling shot from the edge of the box that found its way into the net.

One further goal from Johnstone rounded off a perfect night under the MUSA lights and the boys received a well deserved ovation from the watching home support.

This was a fantastic performance from the boys and showed a lot of guts and character having been questioned in the weeks before.

They will now take this confidence into next weeks game versus Coleraine and hope to build on this good result.

Our thanks to all the supporters who came out to support the boys

CYFC u16s 5-2 Ardstraw Youth

Cookstown Youth U16’s travelled to Ardstraw to play Ardstraw Youth in the Mid Ulster Youth League on Saturday. Cookstown were determined to keep up a winning start to the new season and were impressive from the beginning. Jamie Smith opened the scoring after six minutes after a neat layoff from Daniel Barfoot. Smith scored again when his driven shot hit the far corner of the net. It was all Cookstown when Barfoot hit a rocket of a shot leaving the keeper no chance. Cookstown allowed Ardstraw back into the game when they conceded from a free kick just before halftime. Ardstraw, much stronger in the second half took the match to Cookstown but a resolute Cookstown defence stood strong. Cookstown added a fourth fifteen minutes in, when Gareth Cahoon nipped in ahead of the advancing keeper hitting the back of the net. Ardstraw pulled one back, but it was Cookstown who finished strongly scoring late on. Three wins from three, an excellent start to the season.

CYFC u18s 8-1 Lurgan BBOB

After a very comprehensive opening day win the U18s had their 2nd game of the savage cup in league format, this was against Lurgan BBOB @ kernan playing fields in Portadown and to be honest were in the same standard as last week’s opponents AFC Silverwood.

With 1 change to the side from last week in McCracken coming in for trail, the cookstown boys came out flying and had the lead within the first 3 mins, a deft chip over the top by Biggers found Robb just outside the area and he made no mistake into the bottom corner. What a start CYFC 1-0

Lurgan BBOB tried in vain to get there rhythm going but cookstown weren’t letting up and putting BBOB under severe pressure with their pace and power and this was evident in 2 goals within 8 mins for Gabrysiak to get his 2nd brace of the season (4 goals in 2 weeks) in the 12th and 20th mins, Lurgan was just not coping.  CYFC 3-0.

Lurgan Started to get a bit more physical at this stage and were starting to put together some chances of their own but they were very wasteful, only for more good defending by the back 4 of glendinning, Patterson, Mullan and Kenning and keeper Campbell the score could have very different.

The 4th goal around the 25th min, with some nice play in midfield by Silva and Robb set cookstown again on the attack and as it was cleared by a lurgan defender, out of nowhere Biggers hit a screamer from just on the edge of the “D” …..LEFT FOOTED….. ( we didn’t even know he had one) and it left the Lurgan keeper stranded as it cannoned into the net off  the inside of the post. CYFC 4-0

Number 5 came after 35mins from a good run by McGonigle, who finished off one of his trade mark runs past the Lurgan defenders and cooling slotting past the keeper.

At this stage it was all cookstown with lurgan offering very little resistance and this showed when McCracken (who didn’t want Gabrysiak to have things all his own way in the goals scoring dept) got his 2nd brace of the season too before half time scoring the 6th and 7th goals of the game. CYFC 7-0

Just before the half time whistle blew Lurgan had a goal as they took a quick corner and the big striker took the ball down on his chest and volleyed past Campbell who had been mostly a complete spectator most of the half. CYFC 7-1

The Second half saw 3 changes by Cookstown, for player time on the field and also as a few players were due to play later on in the day for the reserves and 1st team. On came Gault for Campbell, Mullin for Gabrysiak and Traill for McGonigle. Again the managers asked for more football on the deck as this the style they would like the U18s to play this season.

Lurgan then went into a 4-5-1 formation. For the 2nd half and this made it a bit more of game for BUT McCracken then scored his 3rd goal of the game for his and cookstown’s 1st hatrick of the season when he found himself 1 v 1 with the defender who he turned in an instant and fired high into the roof of the net. CYFC 8-1

That was to be the highlight of the 2nd half as both teams then started to cancel each other out. It was a game of 2 halves as both teams having half chances, cookstown with Silva and Mullin BUT mainly due to the intensity level being dropped.

This was again another good win with some impressive goals scored, Especially Biggers left foot pile driver but the big boys are yet to come.  Bring them on………

The next game is against Markethill Swifts when they visit MUSA on the 29th Sept 2018.

Team:  J.Campbell, J. Glendinning, B.Patterson, R .Mullan, W.Kenning, P.Gabrysiak, F.Silva, D.Biggers, C.McGoniglea, C. Robb, A.Traill, M.McCracken, R.Mullan, A.Montgomery, K Gault,
