U12 Youth Win League Cup

U12 Youth Win League Cup

A glorious afternoon at Lurgan Town arena saw the CYFC u 12 Youth team take on Armagh City in the Final of the League Cup. This was an eagerly awaited match between two teams who have battled it out during the course of the year. The large number of travelling supporters were not to be disappointed as both teams put on a truly magnificent display of football.

The CYFC lads started the match quickly, with Tom Wilkinson and Aaron Quinn dominating the middle of the park with some crunching tackles and superb passing out to the wings for Luke Neeson and Peter McClean to latch onto. The early pressure paid off as James Bell held off several of the Armagh defenders to open out into space and bury the ball into the top left hand corner of the net. A superb strike from the talisman of the team. The remainder of the first half was a tense affair with Armagh City lifting their game to match the CYFC lads, blow for blow. The back line of Tom Pitts, Jack Quinn and Conall Sheehy soaked up a huge amount of pressure from Armagh.

The second half saw more of the same tenacious battle between the two teams. D. McNally, L. McElkennon, Tom Bell and Shea McGeehan were introduced to freshen the team up. The last ten minutes of the match saw Armagh City through everything they had forward to try and force extra time.  This seemed to unease the CYFC team, resulting in several free kicks just inside their own half. The Armagh lads pounded the CYFC with multiple long balls going close on several occasions. Jack McClure pulled off some outstanding saves, including one outrageous effort which had looked destined for the top right hand corner.

The final whistle eventually came, much to the relief of the CYFC supporters and the cup travelled back to Cookstown. A superb achievement for this young team that are undoubtedly destined for great things in the future.
